Urban Gardening 2017
11am-3pm
The Hong Kong Jockey Club Atrium outside Library

To engage the HKUST students and staff on sustainable lifestyle, an Urban Gardening Workshop will be organized by the Sustainability Unit and Wild Roots Organic Farm during the Environment Week.

1. Educational Games (Walk-in)

Eating locally and sustainably can help conserve our environment. Through the educational games, participants will experience features of herbs through different senses, learn about the plants of different vegetables, and which vegetables are grown during the Warm (Apr-Oct) and Cool (Nov-Mar) seasons in Hong Kong.

By winning the games, you can get free seedlings of herbs or vegetables and start your own growing.

2. Urban Gardening Workshop (Registration is full)

Participants will learn about the basics for how to grow your own vegetables in small spaces. During this interactive, hands-on 30-minute workshop, you will make a seedling.

Registration is required (full). Confirmation email will be sent to you for your confirmed timeslot.

Come to join us and start your urban gardening today. Any staff, students or residents are welcome.

About Wild Roots Organic Farm

We are a small organic farm located in Sheung Shui, near the Hong Kong Golf Club and next to the Agriculture Fisheries Conservation Department (AFCD) Tai Lung Experimental Organic Farm. Our mission is to help people connect with nature by creating unique experiences through organic farming and by providing them with the freshest, highest quality, seasonal vegetables that are sustainably produced.

Our philosophy is that we cannot produce food thats good for you without also looking after the environment. Many of us think of organic as prohibiting the use of chemical pesticides, but it is much more than that. True organic farming means looking after the soil, encouraging biodiversity and growing only what is suitable given the seasonal climate.

Fai is a Royal Horticulture Society (RHS) certified horticulturist, has earned an IFOAM Organic Agriculture Inspector certification and has worked on production organic farms in Taiwan. He teaches organic farming workshops for schools and organisations such as CUHK, HKU, ESF Schools, Grassroots Pantry and many more.
