This year, the Sustainability Unit adopted a stronger peer influence approach to encourage all the student societies to organize their O’Camps in a more sustainable way. The campaign also aims to cultivate greener habit and value among freshmen for becoming the new HKUST members.

Three Green Actions

Student societies can sign up to commit to organize a Green O’Camp this year by pledging to take ALL 3 green actions.
 

• Bring Your own bottle
   
• Avoid Disposables (plastic straws and disposable cutlery)
   
• Respect Food and Separate for Recycling

Free reusable wood cutlery with cloth set

After making the pledge, the student societies will be notified by the HKUST Sustainability Unit to collect the requested quantity of UST-branded reusable wood cutlery with cloth set in the office before the O’camp. Societies need to pay a deposit of $25 for each set of cutlery and get refunded after the O’camp if completing the following:
 

• Carry out ALL three green actions during O’camp by making appropriate arrangement and sending reminders to all freshmen to ensure everyone gets involved. Distribute the cutlery to freshmen during O’camp and use them to avoid disposable waste.
   
• Post “We are in” poster on at least one of the society’s social media platform before O’camp
   
• Send a report (with photos and descriptions) to green@ust.hk to proof the green actions were taken on or before 7 September, 2018 17:00.

Free to join Green O’Camp (10 lucky draw winners for freshemen)

On the new student registration day on 8-9 August, a promotional counter will be set up in academic concourse outside LTA. Big poster with name list of signed up Green O’Camp student societies will be published. Any freshmen who shows their receipt of joining the Green O’Camp from the signed up student societies can join the lucky draw by the Sustainability Unit. 10 winners will receive a maximum of $500 reimbursement of their Green O’camp fee after 9 August.
