Sustainability Intern - Gardening and Landscape Coordinator (summer semester)

The Sustainability Unit is now seeking talented students who are interested in developing a sustainable campus to join our team. Duties will include:

  • Assist in the development of Gardening Club of HKUST by promoting club activities, recruiting passionate students and staff, and educating HKUST community about the connection between gardening and sustainability.   
  • Coordinating with volunteers to arrange duty schedule of gardening in identified area including irrigation, fertilizing, transplanting seedling and pruning etc.
  • Working with external advisor and experienced staff/students to provide required training to volunteers.
  • Focusing on ways to improve the sustainability of the HKUST landscape, including conducting research on yard waste and composting strategies.
  • Evaluating and testing the composting strategies, compost quality and conducting simple tests to improve soil biology. 
  • Working on specific on-campus projects that improve the sustainability features of the campus.



  • Any UG or PG student of HKUST.  
  • Passionate and experience in gardening.
  • Able to communicate ideas effectively in written and verbal English and Chinese.
  • Experience and knowledge in conducting research.
  • Responsible, dependable, and good organization and time management skills.  
  • Interest in learning more about sustainability and how sustainability principles contribute to smart and creative management. Knowledge of sustainability or behavior change research is an advantage, but not required.


* The employment period is from 30 May to 31 August 2016. Interns are expected to work full time during their terms. Salary is $50/hour plus MPF.
